On 15-acre parcel of land in the heart of, perhaps, the most productive agricultural region in the state is one of the largest artisan, handcrafted wreath companies in the nation. The 12,000 square foot manufacturing facility just outside Greenfield is surrounded by fields of ornamental and culinary herbs and riotous rows of colorful flowers. It’s an anomaly in a region known more for lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower and artichokes, albeit an extremely successful one.
The success of Creekside Farms took root in the gardens at owners’ Larry and Carol Umbager’s King City home more than 30 years ago. What began as a way to create a college fund for their children, by growing, drying and selling flowers, has morphed into a business that those very children now help run.
The signature rustic wreaths, handmade-to-order, are chockfull of fresh herbs and flowers, most of which are grown pesticide-free on the family farm, as well as dried and natural materials. In addition to wreaths for every season and holiday, creations include garlands and centerpieces, wedding and home decor, plus special order gifts.
The farm is open to visitors by appointment only. It’s located at 42195 Oak Avenue, Greenfield, CA; sales@creeksidefarms.com; (831) 674-1234; https://www.creeksidefarms.com
Look for the giant pepper berry tree standing sentry out front.
